Another successful powerlifting meet goes down in the books thanks to all the great lifters and the great people who gave their time to work at this meet.  Thanks to judges Brian Kline, Josh Ash, and Thane Harrison;  loaders/spotter James Evans and Ian, and score keeper Maria McCullough.  A special thanks to Houston ISD and Principal Ken Estrella of Revere Middle School for supporting this sport and giving us the facilities to have this contest.  Thanks also to HISD Police Officer Joe Rodriguez for working as security for the day.

It was rainy and cold but the action heated up early starting out in the men's division with 9 year old Austin Cook lifting in the 11-12 year old youth division.  This fine young lifter set the pace with a 465 total.  Lifting sensation T.J.. Horner, lifting in the 148's, set the roof on fire with a 625 and 665 squat, both for world records.  In the deadlift, T.J. pulled a massive 605 for a world record and just missing 620 for a world record total of 1605.  This 11 time his body weight total got him best lifter of the meet.  In the 181's, 14 year old Marcus Mitchell broke two world records with his 405 and 425 back to back squats.. Mitchell ended his day with a world record total of 1040 pounds. In the 181 master 50-54 division, Paul Boutte had a great day setting 3 world records in the squat going 475, 525, 555 and 575.  He set a new Texas record with his 325 bench coming back in the deadlift to hit a big 510 for another world record.  Boutte ended his day with a world record total of 1390.  Robert Jenkins from Louisiana set to State records with his 375 and 425 squats in the 220 Juniors.  Jenkins also set records in the bench with a successful 365 and 405.  In the deadlift Jenkins once again set two State records with his pulls of 455 and 500 and his total of 1330.  In the 242 submasters, Don Broseman set two American records with his back to back 615, 635 and 645 squats.  Broseman ended his day with an American record total of 1515.  Dean Jones lifting in the 308 submasters got two Texas records with his back to back pulls of 530 and 550 and his total of 1575.  The BIG guy from Vidor, Texas, Nolan Meyers squatted 655 for a Texas record and then went over backwards with a huge 685.  Thankfully no one was injured and Nolan finished the meet with a 615 deadlift and a 1715 total both for Texas records.

In the women's division Ifeatu Okafer, lifting for her first time ended up with a 445 total in the teen 13-15 181's.  In the 132's , thirteen year old Megan Cook had an exceptional day hitting 215, 250 and 265 squats all for world records.  Megan benched 110 for a Texas record and just missed 125.  In the deadlift Cook pulled a Texas record in her opener of 225, a world record with 255 and just missed 280 on the 3rd.  Megan ended her day with a world record total of 630 pounds.

After the chalk dust settled 36 Texas records, 22  American, and 15 World records were either set or broken.  We has several lifters in the 13-15 age divisions who lifted for their first time ever.  All of the lifters who entered this meet put out some of the best efforts I have ever seen.  The sportsmanship was just amazing.
.
A very special thanks to  Inzer Advance Designs who support for our lifters, the sport, and our meets is deeply appreciated.  Also a special thanks to Mike Lambert and Powerlifting USA who have been there supporting us all for almost as long as the sport has been around.  Thanks also to Discount Awards in Houston, Texas for always coming up with some great trophies, even at the last minute.   These great companies have worked hard to help us enjoy the great sport of powerlifting.
