It all got started about 9am on a cold Saturday morning. It
didn't take long until the lifters heated up the building. We
started off with the men's teenage division. In the 114's, 13 year old
Ethan Duhon ended up with an American and Worlds records squat, bench
and deadlift with his 440 pound total. Dustin Askew, lifting in the
123's at 13 years old also set American and World records with his
squat, bench, deadlift and total. Thirteen year old Lane Cherry,
lifting in the 148's came right back and got American and World records
with his squat, bench, deadlift and total. The teen 196's was
loaded and 14 year old James Ecford of the Revere Power Team took 1st
place in the his 335 deadlift and 695 total. In the 181's James
Burdette got the crow on their feet with a 505 opener on his bench
press. He came right back to hit an easy 510 and just miss 525 on
a 4th. Burdette got a Louisiana state record with his bench and
deadlift and an American and World record with his 1510 total.
Junior lifter James Evans was not very excited about his day but
regardless he walked out of the meet with a Texas, American and World
record with his 515 squat and a Texas record for his 1305 total. IN the
198's Donny Adams was the clear winner with a 1095 total. The
220's came down to a war between Josh Ash and Justin Baty. Josh
has the crowd crazy with his 2nd attempt in the deadlift of 700 pounds.
After Josh just missed it Justin thought he was sure to win with a
643.5 attempt in the deadlift. Justin missed his attempt and lost the
battle in the end but Josh did come back on his 3rd and final attempt
to give 700 a ride once again. The crowd was crazy, but Josh just
missed locking the weight out. Fifty-seven year old Tony Galavez,
leader of the Galavez Power Team had a great day with Teas records in
the squat, bench, deadlift, and his 1320 total. Also in the 220's
62, year old Terry Lancaster got 3 Texas records with his squat,
deadlift and 1330 total. Terry also got a Texas, American, and
World record with his 370 bench press. By the end of the meet,
Lancaster also walked out as Overall Lifter. In the 242's, James Dunn
took the lead with a 1570 total. Masters Lifter Pete Grasso had a big
day in the 308's by setting Texas records in his bench, squat, deadlift
and total. Grasso also got American and World records with his
squat, deadlift and total.
In the men's bench press only division 198'er Grant Garner hit 380 and
John Hendrix in the 242's got 460 pounds.
In the women's teen division, 14 year old Ifeatu Okafor, lifting in the
181's took home a Texas record in the squat and with her 620
total. Also in the 181's, 65 year old Dorothy Rawe had a great
day with Texas, American, and World records in her squat, bench.
deadlift, and total. In the 198's, 19 year old Ashley Gonzalez
also walked out with Texas, American, and World records in the squat,
bench press, deadlift and total. Junior lifter Ashlea Ritchie
lifting in the unlimited bench press only division set a Texas record
with her 285 bench. At 72 years old and lifting in the 181
deadlift only division, Nora Revilla got a Texas, American and World
record for her 160 pound deadlift.
Congratulations to all who lifted in this meet. Without all the
great lifters this sport would not have taken place. Also a huge
thanks to our scorer Maria McCullough, judges Danno Flunker, Mark
Harris, and Brian Kline. A special thanks to the hardest workers
and best spotter and loader team I have ever seen, Brian Propst, Lowell
Holmes, and Beau Harris. Thanks also to Houston ISD and Principal Ken
Estrella for allowing us to use the facilities to promote powerlifting,
Inzer Advance Designs for their years of support to the Texas APA,
Sarden Strength Equipment, House of Pain, and a Mike Lambert and
Powerlifting USA for all the coverage and support. Without all of
the great sponsors our meets have, this meet might not have ever
happened.
